  1. The state of looking forward toward something expected, eager anticipation.
  2. Anticipation of a thing that expected; due, proper or necessary.
  3. A thing that is looked forward to.
  4. plural. Expectations. Reason or reasons to look forward to something such as a prospect for the future, such as an advancement, prosperity or inheritance.
  5. Degree of probability for the occurrence of something. Expected value of a random variable, esp. the mean.
